Alyse Emdur, an LA artist and photographer, has put together “Prison Landscapes”, a bleak but fascinating photographic exploration of the idealistic backdrops found in prisons against which inmates are photographed with their families during visits.

The roots of the project are found in the artist’s rediscovery of a photo of her visiting her older brother in jail as a child, taken against a faded sunset view. She invited prisoners to send their own photos in, collecting around 150 images.
